About Syndon Barabash

Ms Syndon Barabash

Counselling Psychologist & Family Therapist

B. Ed., Grad Dip App Psych., MA (Couns Psych), AHPRA, MAPS

Syndon Barabash is a registered Counselling Psychologist (Fellow) and Family Therapist. She has also worked as a Secondary Teacher. She has had over 30 years of experience in a variety of settings including: education, forensics, counselling, specialist counselling services, and psychiatric settings. She has lectured at University and TAFE, and she has presented papers at various conferences.

Syndon has a multidisciplinary style of working. She applies various therapeutic styles and techniques to suit each individual client. Psychodynamic and Family Therapy based approaches are the underpinnings of what she often incorporates into sessions. These help people understand more deeply about who they are, why they’ve developed into the person they’ve become, as well as what they then attract into their lives. Exploring and changing negative patterns is a key focus of her work.

Traditional techniques like CBT (cognitive-behavioural therapy) and Solution-focused Therapy are imperative, as are the principles of Humanism. In terms of Family therapy, the use of genograms to explore transgenerational patterns within one’s family and Object-Relations concepts are often used. Syndon also uses other techniques like Psychodrama, role play and play therapy.

Ultimately, Syndon’s primary focus is to assist clients to help themselves with a variety of social, interpersonal, family, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Liaising with other professionals for the benefit of all clients is of paramount importance to Syndon, as is the process of advocating for them.
